Power of Attorney—can I leave it for later?

A Power of Attorney is a document that gives another person or persons power to act on your behalf in relation to your financial affairs.

Only a person who has legal capacity can make a Power of Attorney so it’s important to arrange to have this document prepared now and not ‘leave it for later’.

You can choose whether your Power of Attorney is ‘general’ which will only operate while you have legal capacity or ‘enduring’ which will continue to operate even if you become legally incapacitated.
